LG Shows Off 5.3-Inch Display with Almost No Bezel

The face of next year’s LG flagship smartphone could incorporate a bezel so slim it’s barely there at all. The hardware-maker is showing off its  latest creation , a 1080p HD 5.3-inch display with a 0.7 mm (0.027-inch) border. The same thickness of a stick of lead from a mechanical pencil. Citing a breakthrough it terms Neo Edge technology, LG’s new panel employs an adhesive layer that doesn’t require a plastic frame around the edge. As icing on the cake, the display is also water-resistant and dustproof. It’s not clear how soon we’ll see one of the fancy new screens in a device, but I suspect the  G3  successor would be among the first. LG is not the first to create an ultrathin bezel for its smartphone screens. The  Sharp Aquos Crystal , already on the market, features a 5-inch 720p display with a superslim screen design. LG’s new hotness, though, is both larger and boasts a higher resolution than Sharp’s. LG also claims its display is the “world’s thinnest” — for now. Wh

5 Tough Cases for Your iPhone 6

The  iPhone 6  is bigger than ever, meaning you get the benefits of a large screen — an improved display and functionality — but also a greater target to crack if it’s dropped (not to mention its bendable aluminum case). This is why you might want more rugged protection with the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Here are five cases to better protect your new smartphone — bends, unexpected drops, and beer spills included. 1. Best for unobtrusive protection The Case:   OtterBox Symmetry Series  (Current price: $49.95 for iPhone 6 Plus case) What We Like:  It easily fit in our pocket. (And our iPhone 6 didn’t bend.) Toughness:  The Symmetry’s thin frame has just enough rubber jutting out on the front to protect the screen. Overall, it’s unobtrusive and designed to look like a form that goes over the phone rather than a case. Plus, the rubber and silicone edges give the phone a bounce when dropped dangerously on its corners or edges. More from Men’s Journal:   The 9 Most Stylish iPh

Verizon Droid Turbo Smartphone Promises 2 Full Days of Battery Life

One of the worst things about modern smartphones is that nagging pang of anxiety that comes with seeing your handset’s battery life blink out of existence at the worst possible moment. That’s where the new Droid Turbo comes in. Debuted by Verizon and Motorola during a press event in New York City, the Droid Turbo promises up to 48 hours of battery life, significantly more than most competing phones. Two days without having to charge your phone probably sounds pretty good. And if that’s not enough, Turbo can get eight hours’ worth of power with just 15 minutes of charge time. I sampled the latest member of the Verizon Droid family this morning. Though it’s not the sleekest smartphone on the planet, it certainly has my attention. Tough but not bulletproof Beyond its reportedly lengthy battery life, the Droid Turbo also sports some interesting build materials. Like Motorola’s previous Droid handsets, the Droid Mini and the Droid Maxx, the Droid Turbo features a Kevlar back pa

Samsung’s 2 New Phones Are All Metal, All Selfie, All Too Familiar

Click Here To Watch The Video Along with Monday’s very sweet launch of the  Nexus 9  tablet and release of the so-called Lollipop update for Android devices, Google also revealed a new treat to help you stay organized and on schedule. In the  latest version of its Calendar app  for Android, Google has brought new features to all of your datebooks, including an auto-add function that will smartly pull in events it detects from your Gmail account, and a convenient Schedule view that shows a scrollable list of everything you have coming up. The look of the app has also been brought up to date with Android’s new “Material” design look, first revealed with Android Lollipop. Google explains that Calendar’s new “Events from Gmail” magic erases the need for copying and pasting over email information about things like flights, concerts, and hotel stays, and will even add updates to these events if and when new information is emailed to you. When inputting info into your schedule the o

Review: Is Google's Nexus 9 the Ultimate iPad Killer..

When it comes to tablets, Apple’s iPads reign supreme. But there are excellent competitors from players like Google, Samsung, and Amazon. The latest: the Nexus 9. The newest member of Google’s Nexus family, this is an 8.9-inch tablet that falls between  Apple’s iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 , size-wise. And of all the iPad alternatives out there — I’m looking at you Samsung and Amazon — the Nexus 9 may be the best you can buy. Here’s why. Size and design The Nexus 9 is Google’s tablet, but it’s not actually made by the tech giant. You see, Google’s Nexus line is meant to represent the company’s take on how Android devices  should  look, feel, and cost. Because Google isn’t in the manufacturing business, it has other device makers build its products. The Nexus 9, for example, is built by HTC. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the Nexus 9’s looks. Like most of Google’s Nexus devices, the Nexus 9 features a sleek, simple design. Its back panel is covered in

Microsoft’s New ‘Band’ Is a Smartwatch in a Fitness Tracker’s Body

Microsoft It was while the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner was dealing high fastballs in Wednesday night’s World Series-clinching win over the Kansas City Royals that Microsoft finally decided to pitch us the details on its rumored smartwatch. And no doubt hoping to shift the wrist-wearable market a bit, it looks like the team out of Redmond has dealt existing gadget makers a heck of a changeup. Called Microsoft Band, the device looks and acts like a smartwatch living inside a fitness band’s body. Along the lines of the classic Fitbit, Nike FuelBand, and Jawbone UP devices, Redmond’s new offering is a low-profile, plastic wrist wearable that connects to your smartphone and measures your activity throughout the day. But in the same vein of the Pebble smartwatch, Android’s Wear watches, and the forthcoming Apple Watch, Band also has a small, rectangular touch display that shows text messages, emails, incoming phone calls, and social media and weather info. Samsung’s 2 New Phones Are All Metal, All Selfie, All Too Familiar

Oh, hey, is that your iPhone … wait a minute. That’s not an iPhone. That’s a … Samsung? That’s right; Samsung has just announced two new smartphones that are dead ringers for Apple’s iPhone 5 and 5s. Say hello to the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A3, two handsets that Samsung hopes will get younger smartphone shoppers interested in the Korean company’s wares. Samsung is pushing the handsets’ “social networking” capabilities, which is to say they’ve got sharp front cameras for taking clear selfies. Does anyone else find it upsetting that phones are now being marketed based on their selfie abilities? Actual marketing image. (Samsung) Duck-faced bathroom mirror photos aside, another thing that makes the Galaxy A5 and A3 so interesting is the fact that they use an all-metal design. That means that the phones are built just like  Apple’s iPhone  and  HTC’s One M8 , two of the most attractive phones on the market. Samsung has taken a lot of heat for using too much plastic o
